What counts as a good darts average

Averages are not evenly spread. Going from 40 to 60 is a season of practice; going from 90 to 100 separates a very good club player from a touring professional.

How the three-dart average works

Divide the points you scored by the darts you threw, then multiply by three. Score 180 with nine darts and your average is 60. It is measured per dart rather than per visit so that a leg finished on the second dart is not penalised, which is exactly why it is the fairest single number in darts.

What is a good darts average for a beginner?

Anything from 20 to 35 is normal when you start. Reaching 40 consistently already puts you ahead of most casual players.

What average do professionals hit?

Tour professionals average roughly 95 to 105 over a match. Above 105 is title-winning form and rare even at that level.

How do I calculate my average without a calculator?

Points divided by darts, times three. A 501 leg in 18 darts is 501 ÷ 18 × 3, which is 83.5.

Does a bust count against my average?

Yes. The darts are thrown, so they count, and the score does not. That is why a busted visit pulls an average down so sharply.
